Let’s talk about learning how to make money from blogging!
There will be a lot of people that try blogging, and most of them will fail, however, there will be that 5% that succeeds in making money online.
The amount of money you can make from blogging is really up to you, and how much effort you put into it.
Creating a blog is the easy part, making it your full-time job is the hard part.
I will say every single person that has a job that is earning money has failed at blogging before they succeeded, it just happens to all of us. You have to learn the ends and outs of blogging.
Why would you want to make blogging your job?
Maybe you want more free time,
Maybe you are looking for a new adventure,
You want a new hobby or challenge.
You are looking for another source of income.
You want to make an impact on a lot of people.
I mean come on, who wouldn’t want to make money in their sleep?
Just remember blogging requires a lot of writing, but if you are not a writer then you can always create a vlog (video blog/ Youtube channel), or a podcast!
Benefits of starting a blog…
- You get to show your creative side, about whatever you are most passionate about.
- Your writing skills will improve BIG TIME!
- Blogging is a great way to show off your expertise and to position your authority.
- You will get to see so many opportunities come to light!
- You might start off clueless about blogging, but overtime you will become an expert at topics you never knew you would learn. Example is I now know SEO, graphic design, video editing, when before I didn’t have a clue what any of that stuff was!
- You can earn really good money from having a website!
- You learn to be self motivated, and your confidence increases.
The Amount of money you can make is also determined by:
-how much time and energy are you willing to spend on it
-whether or not you have learned how to create good content that’s effective at earning sales
-how many streams of revenue do you create
-whether or not your content is helping peoples problems
-advertiser or sponsorships interest
Pro Tip: Growing a website quickly costs time, money, and usually both. The more of each you’re willing to spend, the faster you’ll make money-assuming you make the right investments.
The Cost To Run a Blog
There are start-up costs for blogging, and there are costs to maintain a blog. But like any business (and let’s remember… we want to treat our blog like a business), there are costs to regularly maintain and to grow a blog. This is a very generalized breakdown of some of our personal costs to give you an idea of what you might consider budgeting for.
Website Hosting $12 a month with SiteGround
Buying a Domain $30 a year with SiteGround
Social Media Scheduling Tools: $120 Tailwind yearly, $50 SmarterQueue monthly
Email Marketing We have 3500 subscribers so that sets us at $75 a month with Convertkit
These are like the very minimum requirements. You will eventually want to spend money on other things as you come across them. You have to spend money to earn money.
These are the steps you will need to take to make a solid income from blogging….
- Research, pick a topic/niche
- Pick your domain, hosting, and set up your website
- Build your pages & categories
- Write content constantly. You will need to get at least 50 articles before you start making good money.
- Focus on getting traffic
- Making money from the traffic
- Scale the traffic and your profits.
- Either maintain your website, or sell it for even more profit!
It’s a lot easier said than done that is for sure! But I can promise you that if I can do it, you can do it. Starting out can be very hard and overwhelming. But as long as you follow the steps, and take these free courses then you will do just fine. It will take at least a minimum of 3 months for your site to even rank on Google, after that, you can start to see your first $1 around the 6-month mark.
Starting a new challenge might seem too much to handle for now but don’t worry, take things slow and commit to taking daily action. As long as you get a little bit done each day, then you are on the right track.
Pick A Niche
The first thing you want to do is decide what you want your blog to be about. If you are planning on having a mom blog, what specific category do you plan on writing about? Minimalism? Co-Parenting? Parenting with Toddlers? You can create a lifestyle blog and define your niche by categories such as Budgeting, Meal Planning, Organization, Healthy Eating, etc.
As mom bloggers, we are able to blog about so many things because motherhood is no joke! There is so much to learn and so much to talk about.
Each one of us experiences different things with our children and is in different stages. Something you have gone through could really help another mom out. You might think “there are so many mom bloggers”, but a lot of them move onto a different niche 3 years down the road, so that’s when a new mom blogger (yourself) can jump on the bandwagon and make some money as a mom blogger!
A huge PLUS about being a mom blogger is that you can literally get so much for free for you and your children. At one point I couldn’t even point to a toy that I “purchased” because our house was filled with toys that I received for free to do a review on.
The next thing you need is web hosting. Web hosting is basically an online storage space for you to run and access your website out from. You are basically renting space from these companies who own the servers.
When you are ready to purchase your domain & hosting I highly recommend choosing SiteGround! I’ve been using SiteGround since the day I started my blogging journey. To my surprise, all of my blogging girlfriends recommend the company as well! They are a reliable hosting company with a lot of benefits.
There are a couple of reasons why you should choose SiteGround. The first is that they have amazing 24- hour support. Whenever you have a question about your site, you can use their live chat anytime. If you don’t want to chat, you can phone them too. They are always available and you don’t have to wait hours to get help.
Their uptime is 99.99% incredible! It’s a fact that your blog can go down any time of the day. But, if you choose SiteGround as your hosting provider, you won’t have to worry about that. That means every time someone goes to your blog, ninety-nine percent of the time it won’t be down.
These two things alone can help you get your blog up and running so that you can start getting more pageviews, and you can be confident all those future viral posts are in good hands.
But, if you want to supercharge your blog, SiteGround has the SuperCacher on the GrowBig plan. Having this can handle those viral posts with ease and won’t slow down your site. So when thousands of people show up to your blog in under one hour (don’t we wish), your site won’t even skip a beat…all because of SiteGround’s SuperCacher.
(Please note I am a very happy SiteGround customer, and strongly recommend them as my favorite web-hosting company – this blog post contains links to SiteGround which are affiliate links, this means if you click on a link and go on to buy hosting with SiteGround I will get a small commission, but you will not be charged a penny more – thanks in advance!)
Grow through, what you go through.

The next thing that is the most important is SEO. Here is what Moz says about what SEO is…
“SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It’s the practice of increasing both the quality and quantity of website traffic, as well as exposure to your brand, through non-paid (also known as “organic”) search engine results.
Despite the acronym, SEO is as much about people as it is about search engines themselves. It’s about understanding what people are searching for online, the answers they are seeking, the words they’re using, and the type of content they wish to consume. Knowing the answers to these questions will allow you to connect to the people who are searching online for the solutions you offer.”
Google created their own little SEO Beginners Guide for FREE. I highly recommend reading this article since it will break everything down clearly for you,
SEO is important because…
- improves your visibility and helps target your audience find your website
2. Boosts credibility and authority
3. Improves your brand
4. You will pop up more than your competition
5. You can reach users in all buying stages
So make sure you set out some extra time learning what SEO is. There are on-page and off-page. If you do decide to outsource your SEO work, please be very careful doing so because it can take months to see any improvements. Although someone says they know SEO, they might only know a little bit, instead of everything, SEO takes time, it doesn’t happen overnight.
You can learn a lot about SEO from SearchEngineJournal.com
Another one of my favorite SEO masterminds is Reliablesoft, however, his course costs money (which I do recommend), and if you sign up to his email list he sends you tons of helpful information about SEO!
HerPaperRoute.com has a course about SEO.
Once you have set up your website and learned about SEO it’s now time to make money! There are many different ways you can earn money from your website and I highly recommend reading this article I wrote about the different ways to monetize your website to earn revenue.
When publishing your blog posts, you’ll want to know that there aren’t any careless spelling or grammatical errors. Grammarly has a free download to automatically tell you where your errors are to enable you to correct them before hitting publish.
This is something every blogger or website owner should have.
Remember that when you are blogging for business, it takes time for things to gain momentum. This is going to be a marathon, not a sprint.
Take things one step at a time. Learning how to run a blog can be overwhelming – there’s so much to learn. I am constantly learning new things every day. Tackle one thing at a time, master it and then move on to the next thing.
And last, but not least – DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER BLOGGERS. Your journeys will be different, but I guarantee you that the successful blogger that you are envying had sleepless nights over her blog too at one time.
Time to Market
There are a lot of different ways you can market your blog.
Don’t forget to collect emails during this whole process. The day you finish designing your website is the same day you should have started collecting emails. All of those social media channels that I mentioned can always erase or go dead anytime. So that is why it’s important to get those followers added to your email list as well.
You can read more about my email marketing here in this article that I wrote.
& you can try Convertkit out for FREE here! (we LOVE Convertkit)
Starting a blog is a lot of work. You will need to dedicate a lot of time to your blog. Treat it like a business, because it is! I hope this article was helpful to you. I shared exactly how I got started 4 years ago. You can always search the web for more information because there are thousands of helpful pieces of information out there!
